Donald Trump's big Obama announcement today should have been the challenge Mitt Romney made when Obama and his minions were accusing him of being a tax-cheat and felon. As many will remember, I wrote a Daily Rant saying that if I were Romney I would carry my tax records to every event, including the debates, and say, "I release mine the moment you show us yours."
But alas Romney chose instead to release more of his tax records -- getting nothing in return for being honest.
Trump's big announcement was that he would write a $5 million personal check to the charity of Obama's choice within one hour if he releases his college and passport records. The problem that Trump's offer poses for Obama is that his personal tax records show he doesn't donate to charity, which pretty much means he doesn't have any, unless you consider Planned Parenthood a charity.
But Trump's challenge is not without merit. In the buildup to the announcement this afternoon, speculation revealed several things that the Obamas would rather not have publicized, and it showed just how duplicitous and complicit the media has been in the cover-up.
The Obamas, along with their media guard dogs, have denied that he was a cocaine dealer and that he and his wife were headed for divorce even as he was headed up the steps for his inauguration. Yet those were the first things the media speculated Trump had found unimpeachable evidence of.
I think therein lies the genius of Trump's buildup even if that wasn't his plan. If there was no truth to this and the continued rumors surrounding Obama's sexual preference, why were those the first things the press was prepared to downplay? And note I said downplay not defend.
