Donald Trump and Sarah Palin could be star-studded bedfellows for the GOP after expressing their mutual admiration in recent weeks.
"Both men have more in common than today's media hype would have you believe. Both blazed trails in their careers and love our great nation," Palin said. "Trump is a hero in another arena."
She added, "Trump is the candidate giving voice to untold millions of fed-up Americans witnessing a purposeful destruction of our economy and the equal opportunity for success that made American exceptional."
"I'd love that," he told a radio show. "Because she really is somebody who knows what's happening and she's a special person. She's really a special person and I think people know that."
The comments appear to have struck a chord. A blog in the Raw Story outlined nine reasons why Trump should choose Palin as his running mate. Top of the list was their "candid" and "bombastic" styles, the obsession of the media, and the enthusiasm they generate on social media.
The relationship appears to date back years. In 2011, after the two had a tête-à-tête at Trump Tower, Trump described her as "a great woman, a terrific woman, and a terrific friend." And Palin told reporters that the two "share a love for this country, a desire to see our economy put back on the right track."
After Trump's recent comments, Twitter is alight with commentary. While much of it is mocking, some on social media say they are holding out for a Trump/Palin ticket.
